Anderson Arts Center Art Exhibition

January 29, 2012 – March 25, 2012

Main, East & Upper Galleries: “Quilts in Color” by Ann Fahl, Rhonda Rodero, Melody Johnson,Marcia Stein, Barbara J. Schneider, Gloria Hansen.“Aprons: Myth, Memory, Fantasy” by Women’s Journeys in Fiber. 3-D Gallery: “The Three ‘Dis’ Graces: Poverty, Neglect & Indifference” by Kathleen Laybourn. Area Artist Group Galleries: “From the Hip” by Sally G. Miller. West Wing Student Galleries: Central High School, Salem. Admission is free and donations are gratefully welcomed.

Art Exhibit: "Through Their Veins" - A Showcase of Mexican Artists

February 2, 2012 – March 16, 2012

In its newest exhibit, the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art showcases the works of four artists of Mexican/Chicago heritage who share a strong cultural vision. Works in painting, drawing, photography and installation highlight how identity, gender, family, community and political issues can generate images or objects of beauty, reveal cultural misrepresentations, and elicit deep emotional response from the viewer.

Civil War Museum Exhibit: Stephen A. Douglas: From the Shadow of Lincoln

September 24, 2011 - March 18, 2012

This exhibit uses items from private collector George Buss to showcase Lincoln's political rival and show how, during Douglas' lifetime, he was the more popular of the two men. Douglas, a powerful politician and controversial legislator, is depicted through paintings, lithographs, sculptures, personal artifacts, campaign posters and cartoons.

Kenosha History Center Exhibit: Shake Rattle & Roll – Kenosha Auto Making in the 50’s

December 10, 2011 - September 30, 2012

Take a trip back to the 1950’s at this exhibit featuring a 50’s diner along with a jukebox to play all your favorite hits of the day. On display are autos that represent the best of the 50’s production by Nash-Kelvinator and AMC. Suggested donation: $2 adults / $1 students & children. Closed holidays.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: Reginald Baylor: Mason Dixon Lines

November 26, 2011 – March 11, 2012

Contemporary artist Reginald Baylor of Milwaukee will present a new exhibit: Mason Dixon Lines at the Kenosha Public Museum's Paula Freck Touhey Gallery. Acrylic on canvas is Reginald Baylor's usual medium of choice, working with large-scale figures and landscapes in bold and complex colors in a Pop Art style. His new mixed media works explore many different materials that remind him of his Midwest blue collar, manufacturing upbringing. Fabrics, leather, wood, and metal are translated into Reginald's primary focus of line, shape, and color. He uses various digital, mechanical, and manufacturing processes to create his artwork.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: Wolves and Wild Lands presented by the Uline Co.

October 8, 2011 – March 25, 2012

The exhibit includes five wolf specimens and one coyote specimen on loan from the Bell Museum of Natural History, in cooperation with the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minn. The exhibition features wolves and their closely related cousins, the red wolf and coyote. The story of wolves in North America takes us to many places, from the Arctic to the southwestern United States.

Every Wednesday through end of February....culminating with a very special final WINTER WEDNESDAY event on Leap Day, February 29th! Featuring different family friendly activities, crafts or games each Wednesday! $1 hot chocolate, $2 scoops!

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: From Icons to Fairy Tales: Russian Lacquer

December 27, 2011 – September 2, 2012

Several private collectors have loaned their lacquer boxes, making the exhibit possible. The idea to create lacquer boxes with detailed paintings originated more than 1,000 years ago in Asian countries including China and Japan. Europeans adopted the process during the 17th and 18th centuries – often used to create snuffboxes which were then were in great demand throughout Europe. Lacquer offered a less expensive alternative than turtle shell or ivory.
