Carthage hosts Family Fun Nights for the community on most Friday evenings during the school year. All are welcome! Families can enjoy fun and educational, themed activities in Hedberg Library, browse the collection in the Center for Children's Literature or use the library computers, or swim and play basketball in the TARC.
Admission is free, except to the TARC. The TARC is available for a $1 donation to the Kenosha Boys & Girls Club (some weeks availability is limited). Note: There is no parking on Campus Drive. Lot I (south of Hedberg Library), Lot D (by the men's baseball field), and Lot H (north end of campus) are available for guest and visitor parking, along with visitor spaces in front of Lentz Hall.
The scheduled themes are:
March 9 - Reading and Dancing "Under the Mambo Moon". Celebrated children's book author Julia Durango is the special guest. Ms. Durango is the author of "Dream Away," "Under the Mambo Moon," "Go, Go Gorillas" and other books. Join us for an interactive author visit where we will explore dance through poetry, as she does in her book "Under the Mambo Moon." This is a Big Read Kenosha County event, spearheaded by Kenosha Public Library. In the TARC: Swim in the pool, run on the indoor track, play basketball or racquetball, or use the Semler Fitness Center. The N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center will be available from 6 to 9 p.m. for a $1 donation to the Kenosha Boys and Girls Club. The swimming pool will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 16 must be directly supervised when using the Semler Fitness Center.
March 16 - Art with Amy: A night with illustrator Amy Cordova: Come explore art at this hands-on event with Amy Cordova, two time winner of ALA’s Pura Belpre Honors Award, a Wisconsin Library Association Illustrators Award, and recent America’s Award. Amy Cordova is an artist, author, educator, and award-winning illustrator of children’s books. Cordova’s work is saturated with vibrant color and speaks of connection, the spirit, and a sense of place within a cultural context. This is a Big Read Kenosha County event, spearheaded by Kenosha Public Library.
March 23 - Dance Around the World: The Omeyocan Dance Company presents Aztec dances, drumming and a mini interactive workshop. Come see Mexican Folk dances and the Yaqui Deer Dance then learn dance steps of the Eagle dance. You might get the chance to play an instrument.
