New Civil War Museum Hosts Pre-Kenosha Symphony Orchestra Concert Reception

Kenosha, WI (September 23, 2008) -The Kenosha Symphony Orchestra leads its new season on October 11 with a concert titled American Reflections: A salute to the opening of the Civil War Museum. A pre-concert reception will take place at the new Civil War Museum, where the main exhibit gallery “The Fiery Trial” has just opened.

The after-hours party at the Civil War Museum, 5400 First Ave., will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will include complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres. Maestra Miriam Burns, of the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, will briefly attend. Concert tickets are required to attend the reception.

The party then moves a few blocks away to Reuther Auditorium, at 58th St. & Sheridan Rd., for the 8 p.m. concert featuring Kamel Boutros, Baritone and Gregory Berg, Narrator. The symphony will perform Buck’s Festival Overture on the American National Air, Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, Adams’ The Wound Dresser, Copland’s The Promise of Living from The Tender Land, and Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (from The New World).

The partnership between the two entities came about due to Ed Block, a Civil War enthusiast and Civil War Museum supporter, who has also been involved with the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra. He approached Maestra Miriam Burns about holding a Civil War themed concert.

“We’re thrilled they’ve honored the Civil War Museum with their opening concert,” said Peggy Gregorski, Development Coordinator for the Kenosha Public Museums. She said the reception is a way to show the Civil War Museum to other arts enthusiasts.

Renee E. Mura, President of the Kenosha Symphony Association, said that the Kenosha Symphony Association Board thought having this concert would be a wonderful way to highlight the new Civil War Museum, and is happy to be collaborating with the Museum.

At the Civil War Museum, visitors learn about the history, the people and the stories of the Upper Middle West before, during and after the Civil War. The Museum’s hours are Sun.-Mon. 12 p.m.-5 p.m., Tues.-Sat. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, visit www.thecivilwarmuseum.org or call (262) 653-4141.

The Kenosha Symphony Orchestra season also includes concerts on December 6, and February 21 and May 9 in 2009. Tickets cost $25 adults / $20 seniors / $10 students / children under 12 free.
