Destined for a Great Time in The Kenosha Area in 2010
Kenosha, WI (February 2, 2010) - Viewers throughout the region of television’s Discover Wisconsin show will discover this May what Kenosha Area visitors have known all along: this corner of Southeastern Wisconsin has all the makings of the perfect getaway.
The Kenosha Area is a CHOICE Destination of television’s Discover Wisconsin show. The newest Kenosha Area episode will premiere May 15-16. Check your local listings for stations and times for this episode. Meanwhile, check the new 2010 Kenosha Area Visitors Guide for listings of things to see and do here (including Jelly Belly Center, Kenosha HarborMarket, Civil War Museum, and Prime Outlets at Pleasant Prairie), accommodations, dining, recreation opportunities, major events, and more.
New attractions in 2010 include the Southport Light Station Museum, which opens to the public on May 15. After extensive restoration efforts on Kenosha’s Southport Light Station Keeper’s House, it will be opening as a maritime museum. Restored to its original 1908 form, the Museum will tell the history of Kenosha’s harbor and its importance in the city’s development, from transporting wheat throughout the U.S. to shipping Nash and Jeffrey automobiles around the world. Also climb the 72 lighthouse steps during Museum hours for a breathtaking view over Lake Michigan.
Also, in June 2010, a new Olympic size pool opens at RecPlex. The state-of-the-art 50-meter competition pool will draw large events to this region; a five-state swim meet is already scheduled to take place in August.
There is more than one reason to visit the Kenosha Area this year. From the return of last year’s popular first-time events - Wisconsin Marathon and Taste of Wisconsin - to the return of Kenny Chesney to Country Thunder, there are enough events, attractions, and shops to fill everyone’s itinerary. More new places to go include Cowboy Hat Country in Downtown Kenosha, where you can get a cowboy hat hand shaped like Chesney’s. Or bring the kids to the new Monkey Joe’s inflatable play center to do some monkeying around.
