Kenosha Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week

Kenosha, WI  (April 29, 2011) –Each day the Kenosha Area is marketed by the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau as a desirable travel destination in an effort to positively impact the local community. During National Travel & Tourism Week (May 7-15), the community is invited to join the KACVB in celebrating tourism and its impact. During Tourism Week, Kenosha County’s 2010 economic impact figures will be announced.

Tourism Week will kick off with First Fridays on May 6th at the KACVB’s I-94 Visitor Information Center. The public can meet Kenosha Area business and attraction operators and enjoy samples, raffles, games, and more. Attendees may enter to win a free hotel stay and take their photo with Tripp the Tourist to win prizes. Expected businesses this month are Candlewood Suites, Andrea’s, Culver’s of Pleasant Prairie, and Kenosha County Golf. The open house-style event runs from 12 to 3 p.m. and is free. The I-94 Visitor Information Center is located at the southeast corner of I-94 and Hwy. 165 (Exit 347).

The KACVB has partnered with the Kenosha News to offer the Be A Tourist in Your Own Town Giveaway, May 8-21, on KenoshaNews.com. More than 20 businesses have donated prizes, giving local residents an extra incentive to explore and appreciate what’s in their own community this summer.

The KACVB has also partnered with the Kenosha News for the Where’s Tripp? promotion as part of Be A Tourist in Your Own Town. Tripp the Tourist is the KACVB’s three-foot tall tourism mascot. A “mystery photo” will be featured each of the weeks of May 8 and 15 via the Kenosha News and KACVB’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Readers can try to guess where the photo is taken. Each day, the view of the photo will widen, giving more clues. Then readers will be directed to go to the location, take their picture with Tripp and enter to win prizes by tweeting or emailing their photo @ the location shown in the mystery photo!

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 10th, admission to the Fiery Trial exhibit at the Civil War Museum, 5400 First Ave. will be free from 12 to 5 p.m. Free guided tours will be offered at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. This opportunity is compliments of the KACVB. If you have never been to the Civil War Museum or if you want to take another look, this is the perfect time to do so! The exhibit is always free for ages 17 and under.

Also during Tourism Week, the KACVB will be wrapping up its annual presentation series to Kenosha Unified 3rd grade classrooms. The presentations highlight significant landmarks and attractions from the area’s past and present and include a Coloring Contest. This spring, the KACVB visited 17 schools.

The KACVB, a non-profit organization, was established 25 years ago to increase visitor appreciation of and spending in Kenosha County, thus improving the economy of the region.
