The Secret Garden Café and Gallery, located at Library Park in Downtown Kenosha, reopened under new ownership of Sue Markko and Tom Bushery in April, 2011. No longer just a café, the Garden is now also an art gallery. Artwork from more than twenty local artists is on display and for sale, and 100% of the sales proceeds go directly to the artists. The menu at the Garden can be described as healthy without being radical. Breakfast fare consists of homemade muffins, scones, and biscotti, meat and veggie frittata and fruit strata, all made with farm fresh eggs from Yuppie Hill Farm. Fruit smoothies with Greek yogurt and a variety of toasty breads and spreads…flavored butters blended by co-owner Sue complete the anytime-of-the-day breakfast offerings. Lunchtime brings delicious soups, hearty sandwiches, and a very special Grow Your Own Secret Garden Salad. You design your salad with only the ingredients you want, and it comes to you fresh from the kitchen.
The addition early morning and weekend hours for al fresco dining with views of Library Park, city maintained flower gardens, and the 1883 St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church make the Garden a natural destination for anyone desiring a relaxing breakfast, coffee break, or lunch. The Secret Garden Café and Gallery’s other co-owner, Tom, is a potter as well as a state licensed massage therapist. He makes various pieces of the dinnerware used by the Garden’s customers, and his work is available for sale at the café. After 2:30 p.m. he offers therapeutic chair massages at nominal rates for relaxation or to combat mid-afternoon fatigue. Accommodations can be made for groups and for events outside normal operating hours.
