Charles Nash Park

Kennedy Park

Lincoln Park
7010-22nd Ave., Kenosha, 262-653-4080. 44 acres. Featuring the Warren J. Taylor sunken garden with more than 50 varieties of flowers planted annually in 31 formal beds. Playground, basketball court, baseball and soccer field and sledding area. Wedding permits available.

New Munster Wildlife Area

Old Settlers Park

Pennoyer Park

Petrifying Springs Park
Hwy. 31 and Hwy. A, Kenosha, 262-857-1869. 350 acres. Scenic hiking, cross-country skiing. Streams and rivers, picnic areas, playgrounds, volleyball courts, softball diamonds, a public golf course, shelter rentals, sledding hill.

Poerio Park Nature Center
20th Ave. and 15th St., Kenosha, 262-653-4080. Marked nature trail circles a pond and takes hikers through a wooded nature area. Open air pavilion.

Prairie Springs Park, Lake Andrea and Froggy's Landing
10000 Terwall Terrace, Hwys 165 and H, Pleasant Prairie. Contact RecPlex at 262-947-0437. www.RecPlexOnline.com. Prairie Springs Park features a 2.3-mile paved walking and jogging trail, playgrounds, volleyball pits, softball fields and archery ranges. Lake Andrea offers swimming, windsurfing, fishing, sailing and boating. Froggy’s Landing features pedal boat, canoe, kayak and small watercraft rentals. The Park has spaces available for rent. Froggy’s Landing and the swimming area are open mid- June to Labor Day. Outdoor classes and programs are run year round.

Pringle Nature Center
Hwy. C to Hwy. MB, south to entrance, Bristol, 262-857-8008. www.pringlenc.org. Hike or bike on the wood chip trails through this majestic oak community in the Bristol Woods upland forest. Free ongoing nature programs, exhibits, books and interactive learning stations in the Nature Center, which is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Other times vary according to event.

Richard Bong State Recreation Area
9 miles west of I-94 on Hwy. 142 (One mile west of Hwy. 75), Kansasville, 262-878-5600. www.bongnaturalistassociation.org. 4,515 acres. Almost 30 miles of trails for biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking and horseback riding. Also volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, hunting areas, nature center and a lake for boating, fishing and swimming. Camp sites (217) with some electrical, flush toilets, showers and a new handicapped accessible cabin.

Silver Lake Park
Hwy. 50 to Hwy. F, south to entrance, Silver Lake, 262-857-1869. 260-acre park known for its excellent swimming beach, lifeguards on duty, concession stand, hiking trails, volleyball court, windsurfing launch, soccer fields and shelter rental. Entry fees Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Simmons Island Beach
5001 Simmons Island Drive, Kenosha, 262-653-4080. Public Lake Michigan beach near a park, paved bike trail, two historic lighthouses, 2 playgrounds with one on the beach and open air picnic pavilion in the park.

Southport Beach
7825 First Ave., Kenosha, 262-653-4080. Children’s playground and multi-purpose field, the Pike Bike Trail and open air picnic pavilion in the park. Building available for rent.

Veterans Memorial Park
Lakefront and 52nd St., Kenosha, 262-653-4080. Open dawn-dusk. Veteran’s Memorial Fountain and Lone Soldier Memorial.

Washington Park
1821 Washington Road, Kenosha, 262-653-4080. 29 acres. Washington Pool with zero-depth entry, splash fountain and water slides. Playground, basketball and tennis courts, sledding and skateboarding. Features the United States’ oldest operating velodrome with weekly summer races.

Wolfenbuttel Park
59th St. and 3rd Ave., Kenosha, 262-653-4080. Charming gazebo with Lake Michigan backdrop, biking and walking trails, and flower garden. Wedding permits available.





Bike Trail:

The Pike Bike Trail
City of Kenosha Park Dept., 262-653-4080. Hike or bike along the 10.2-mile trail through Kenosha County. The scenic trail runs along points of interest including three National Register Historic Districts, Lake Michigan, two historic lighthouses, recreational opportunities, Poerio Nature Center and more.
